Yule Fruitcake Cookies

Title: Yule Fruitcake Cookies

4 c flour; sifted
1 ts baking soda
1 ts salt
1 c shortening
2 c brown sugar, packed
2 egg; beaten
2/3 c buttermilk
2 c dates; chopped
1 c nuts; chopped
1 c candied cherries; chopped
1 c candied fruit and peel
-chopped

Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs,
beating until light and fluffy. Add the buttermilk, alternately with
sifted dry ingredients, into the creamed mixture; mix well. Fold dates,
nuts, candied fruit and peel into the batter. Chill the dough about 1
hour.

Drop the chilled dough by teaspoonfuls, about 2 inches apart, onto a
lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in oven 375*F. 8 to 10 minutes, or
until set and lightly brown.
